Keeping Magic Magical, part 1 of 3
Magic should be like rumors, often whispered about but rarely verified.
In a typical RPG such as D&D, magic is so abundant and readily accessible that it is essentially technology. Gadgets, appliances, equipment enhancements are all at your disposal, as well as plenty of experts ready to harness and manifest the raw energies for practical benefit.
Where is the magic!? Where is the mystery and wonder–the thrill and danger–where is the awe and fear and dread!?
Magic in most RPGs is too well known. It can be cataloged, memorized, exchanged and bought. It can be turned on and off, enhanced and dismissed, analyzed and learned. It is a commodity, a tool, a weapon.
What it is not, is magical…
